Recap of the May 21st Meeting: President Bud Lyon brought the crowd of about 50 members to order and led the flag salute. As this was a shortened meeting because of the presentation of awards for the Surf Fishing Tournament, the Treasurer and Secretary’s reports were waived. Several members complained of the deteriorated state of the Boat Ramp and it was agreed to submit a repair request to Upper Township. There was a discussion on the move by the Trustees to resume contributions to the NJ Reef Program. This issue will be taken up at the next meeting of the Trustees.
The Surf Tournament: The tournament was a continuation of our policy to hold our events for not only our enjoyment but to assist some folks in need. The two charities that benefited from this tournament were, Autism Living & Working Together and Polar Bear Run Walk for Autism. Total contributions (including $100 + from Marty Otter, winner of the 50/50) exceeded $2200. All should take great pride in the generosity of our members.
The following awards were presented:
Catch & Release: 30 Lb Black Drum Ed DiMarcantonio
Kid’s Winner: 8.5 Lb Striper Wyatt Jordan
Third Place: 33 Lb Striper Joe Callahan
Second Place: 34 Lb Striper Bud Lyon
First Place 37 Lb Striper Dave Kupec
Following the awards all enjoyed the excellent table fare and refreshments donated by the Diamond family and Mike’s Seafood of Sea Isle city.
New Members: The following were voted and welcomed into the Club in May:
Patrick Ferris, of Kutztown, PA, and S. Seaville, NJ
David Kupec of Egg Harbor Township
Darren Keir of Ocean City
Saltwater Registry: If you are over 16 years of age and wish to fish in New Jersey’s salt water, you must register with the State. You must register even if you are not a resident of NJ and even if you have a valid registration with the National Saltwater Angler Registry or a valid license from another state. So far the reports are that the game wardens are only issuing warnings but the threat of a significant fine is definitely in the future. You can only register on-line at: http://www.nj.gov/dep/saltwaterregistry/index.html
