Striper Tracking
Scientists from the Rutgers University Marine Field Station are trying to better understand the coastal migration of striped bass. The study area includes the Mullica River/Great Bay estuary, the southern end of Barneget Bay, and the coastal ocean outside of Little Egg Inlet off Tuckerton, New Jersey. The Atlantic City Press published an article on the program on November 12, 2004.
SFEC has adopted one of the study fish, named “Corson”.
Recreational Fishing Alliance (RFA)
Effective December 1, 2004, SFEC joined the RFA as a club member, which means each SFEC member holds a full membership in the RFA for one year. The RFA is a non-profit organization that protects the rights of Sport Fishermen across the country. The RFA has presented an annual status report to SFEC for the last few years, with specific emphasis on the Striped Bass fishery. Recently, the RFA has begun a program to address the New Jersey issues of the Striped Bass fishery, including new limits and the status of the Striped Bass as a game fish.
