The SFEC held the Last Cast Tournament on 11/27-11/28 as we were thankful that the weather cooperated over the Thanksgiving Weekend. The ocean temperature was still a bit warm, the fish were a little spotty, but the SFEC had very good participation for our Annual “Catch and Release” event. Fishing was permitted from Great Egg Inlet, south to Townsends Inlet and out to 3 NM. Fishing took place off the surf, boats in both ocean and back bay, and on bridges and docks.
The largest fish, a 44 1/2” Striped Bass was landed on Whale Beach in Sea Isle City by Scott Cannon; he was awarded 1st Place. Scott is the son of long-time SFEC member Jim Cannon. The elder Cannon has won a many SFEC tournaments and has apparently passed on his fishing skills to his son. What a great fish Scott!
The SFEC President Scott Oliver, entered a 26” Striped Bass caught in the back bay to claim 2nd Place. The 3rd Place prize went to Don Reck with 25” Striped Bass also caught in the back bay. (Don is the son-in-law of long-time SFEC member Mike Jarvis).
All of our winners: Scott Cannon, Scott Oliver, and Don Reck will receive a gift certificate from Sea Isle Bait & Tackle. We thank SIB&T for their contribution and helping make this annual fishing tournament a success once again. We thank our winners for releasing their fish as they help promote the SFEC commitment to environmentally friendly fishing practices and coastal preservation awareness.
