The SFEC held the Annual Summer Flounder Tournament on Saturday June 8th. The tournament had great participation as 61 anglers signed-up to fish. Thanks to everyone who got out on the water and fished! We also need to thank Whale Creek Marina for being the official Weigh-Station and for hosting our after-tournament Awards Dinner. The SFEC wants to recognize and thank Dave and Carol Ferguson for running this successful event. Dave has provided us a summary of the tournament and award winners:
61 folks signed up and participated in the Summer Flounder tournament on June 8th. It was windy and the water turned cold so the fishing was tough. As a result, only seven fish were weighted-in by the 5:00 PM deadline with weights ranging from 2.14 lbs. to 3.08 lbs. Nevertheless, everyone who attended the awards “dinner” enjoyed the beer, hot dogs, bratwurst, chili and condiments arranged by Carol Ferguson. As Frank Jankowski stated, “the fishing was poor, but the party was great.”
The results: All winners received an SFEC Fishing Certificate. Additionally, the over-all winner received a gift certificate to Whale Creek Marina of $50. The other first place winners received $25 Whale Creek Marina gift certificates.
The Over-all Award went to Steve Burin (3.08 lbs.). No one weighed-in three fish, so the prize was given to the heaviest fish.
For the Women’s Division:
1st Place: Candi Jankowski 2.19 lbs.
2nd Place: Alaine Krasticek 2.14 lbs.
For the Men’s Division:
1st Place: Tracy Beers 2.31 lbs.
2nd Place: Herb Hollinger 2.24 lbs.
3rd Place: Frank Jankowski 2.19 lbs.
The “Best Catch” of the day belonged to 3 1/2 – year – old BENSON LOCKWOOD. This proud young man caught-and-released his first ever Flounder of 17.5 Inches.
