Mary Ann was an annual volunteer at the registration desk for the July 4th parade, an original “Roundbottom” from the North End, a member of the SFEC and SIA, and a woman of deep faith and abiding love for her family and friends. She and her husband Dick were often seen on an early evening bike ride throughout town.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

We had a great turnout for the Last Cast Tournament. The Last Cast Fishing Tournament was held on Friday and Saturday November 24th and 25th. This is the 12th year that this very popular SFEC event has taken place over the Thanksgiving Weekend. Once again, the Last Cast was a great, fun-filled success as 37 participated – fishing from boats, bridges, and beaches. Three fish were caught, one from each a boat, the beach, and a bridge. The late November weather cooperated with our plans as it was sunny, pleasant, and dry.
The Last Cast prize winners are as follows:
1st Place: Tim Noss (President Sallie Callahan’s brother) – 23.8 lb. Striped Bass (Boat)
2nd Place: Randy Roash – 10 lb. 29” Striped Bass (Beach)
3rd Place: Bill Lutz – 19” Striped Bass (Bridge)
As usual, for the 12th-straight-year, Rob Coffey was the Chairperson for the years final fishing event. On Saturday a good crowd gathered at the Strathmere Fire House for the Awards Dinner – a great spread of Barbecued Chicken, Roast Beef, a variety of salads, and all sorts of beverages. Special thanks to Paul Zeinnker for making a great batch of chili; it was delicious and had a “kick” that would have pleased Emeril! We also need to thank the very talented Carol Ferguson for donating her time to provide the wonderful artwork on the 1st Place Prize. Rob would also like to thank Scott Buehler for helping with the tournament logistics and set-up throughout the weekend.
The SFEC wants to thank Rob for his hard work and once again making the Last Cast a terrific two-day event. Of course, the SFEC would like to extend our thanks to the Strathmere Volunteer Fire Company for allowing us to hold our events in the Fire House. The biggest thanks goes to those who fished over the holiday weekend – thank you to all of those who came out to make the 12th Annual Last Cast Tournament a great!
Although the fish were hard to find during the tournament, there have been reports of more catches right here in Strathmere. Let’s hope they hang around for a while.
Moving into December PLEASE join us on Saturday, December 16th at the Firehouse at 4 PM for our annual Christmas Party!
If you are able to bring a dessert that would be appreciated.
We’ll start with a brief meeting and then Ed Andress will be putting together a delicious spread for us. Santa will make an appearance, SFEC has a gift for everyone in attendance, and much more planned!!! Don’t miss it—it won’t be the same without you!!
Also, if you are planning on attending the SIA and Strathmere Fire Company Christmas Party on December 9th at the Deauville, they really need you to let them know. Please contact Donna Diefenderfer at 215-801-5876 or donnad921@comcast.net.
Stay tuned as the board has some great new things planned for 2018. Keep your eye out for our 2018 Calendar.
Enjoy every minute of this wonderful season—hopefully you are still fishing!
