The “Kids’ Korner” of the SFEC Website
The purpose of the Korner is to encourage young people to enjoy fishing in the Strathmere Area, while sharing with other young people the fun they have catching fish. A secondary purpose is to promote the SFEC’s “catch and release” philosophy, by encouraging young people to return their catch to the water unharmed (after taking a picture).
Pictures will be posted of catches made by children 16 and under who are children, grandchildren or other family members of SFEC members. In addition, there will be a Kids’ Column, where the same kids can contribute articles such as, “Why I like to fish (in Strathmere)”, “Why protecting our environment and fish stocks is important”, etc.
Approach: We will encourage a broad number of kids to participate, by limiting participants to two pictures of their catches per month – one from the beach or dock, and one from a boat. They will be able to “swap” one picture per month, in the event they want to show an even better catch than the one originally posted. There will also be a limit of one article per kid per month.
Process: Please send your picture to sfec@comcast.net. Include the type of fish, length and weight (if you know), where it was caught (“beach at Webster Road”, “Flat Creek”, etc.) and of course the kid’s name. Follow the same process to submit an article. In the interest of protection of privacy, no last names will be posted on the Kids’ Korner. The website will display pictures from the current month (or the last month pictures were submitted), and provide links to pictures from previous months.
Note: because so few pictures have been submitted in 2009, we will suspend the “current month” rule and display all pictures, with the most recent at the top.
No pictures will be posted from prior to 2009.
