Jane Shetler was a very special lady.
Extremely active in both the Fire Company and the SFEC, she was well known to most Strathmere residents. Jane was also an avid collector of pictures and replicas of lighthouses.
Sadly, Jane passed away in 2006 after a losing battle with ovarian cancer.
The SFEC decided to honor her memory with an annual tournament just for women.
The Eighth Annual Jane Shetler Tournament, held as a benefit to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, was held on June 28, with a dinner and awards at the Firehouse.
.
A nice crowd was in attendance.

Dinner preparation were handled by
Herb Hollinger and Tom Starr,
Debbe Starr and Liz Hollinger,
and of course head cook, Bud Lyon!
Bud was upset when we asked him to “look busy”, because he had spent the last four hours being busy with the preparations.
.
What a great spread!
.
Then Dick talked about the origins of the tournament.
Carole, Dick and Deb prepared to present awards.
An Honorable Mention award went to Grace Olley, for her catch of a 3.01 pound, 21.5 inch flounder.
The third place plaque went to Alice Garrity for her 3.48 pound, 21.5 inch catch.
Kelsey Cunningham won second place with her catch of 4.62 pounds, 22.5 inches.
The winner was Nancy Cunningham, for her catch of a 4.95, 23 inch flounder!
Great job, Deb!
Congratulations to all the winners!
And thanks to all who attended.
.
Special thanks to all for your donations to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund!
