Merry Christmas! Happy New Year!
President Randy Roash opened our last meeting on Nov. 7th with the flag salute. Secretary Rosemarie Whelan and Treasurer Dick Shetler read the previous meeting minutes and financial reports. Randy discussed the recent successful Surf Fishing Tournament and Food Pantry donations.
Because of the greater number of people in need this year, we are conducting a second food drive at our December 5th meeting. If possible please bring non-perishable food items such as soup, tuna fish, pasta or personal hygiene products such as deodorant, soap, shampoo etc. Cash donations are also welcomed. Your generosity will make it possible for some families to survive this winter and we thank you.
Nomination Officer Dick Omrod has put together a list of nominees for the 2010 Executive Board, but there is still time to add others to the list. Please let him know if you are interested. Voting will take place at the December meeting.
Striper Board– Dick would also like to remind everyone that the striper board is still up at the Whale Creek Marina, so using the honor system, if you catch a nice striper add your name & size of fish before the Dec. 31st deadline. Randy will announce the winners at the Winter Social in February.
Sick & Welfare– Get well wishes go out to club members Donna Turner and Butch Vandegrift. Hope both of you are doing better. We would like to send a special get well to Mrs. Bess Hollinger, we hear she is feeling better and that’s great news.
Environmental Committee Chairperson Carol Ferguson announced plans to plant Beach Plum on the dunes on Nov. 8th and asked for volunteers. We heard that it went well and the plants held despite the recent storm. We hope that all of our local Strathmere residents are recovering from the three days of wind, rain, extreme flooding and loss of electricity. They had a very rough time of it and hopefully calm weather will prevail. At the conclusion of the meeting, we were treated to some great food prepared by Ed & Lyn Tettemer. It was enjoyed by all and we thank both of you.
Club Membership Dues- Your $25.00 annual club dues is due on January 1, 2010. The Executive Board has been discussing the dues situation and whether the dues should be raised. The dues have been $25 for many years and as you all know costs keep going up, but it was decided that the dues would not be increased this year. The one difference to occur this year is if your dues is not paid by April 1st there will be a late charge of $10.00 making your dues $35.00. Any $25.00 check received after April 1st will be returned to you and you have the option of paying $35 or be taken off of the membership rolls. $25.00 is a great deal when you think about food & beverages served at monthly meetings, special programs, fun tournaments, social events and a monthly newsletter just to name a few of the perks of membership. So please get your dues sent in on time. Board members should not have to chase members down them or make personal phone calls to remind them. Please see the dues form here.
The last meeting of 2009 will be held at the Firehouse on December 5th at 4pm. We will be having our elections, a Christmas party and collecting for the Resurrection Church of Marmora Food pantry. Hope you all can make it because club chef Ed Andress is doing the cooking and you don’t want to miss out on that.
2010 Club Calendar– The outgoing Executive Board is busy working on the new club calendar which they will present to the new Executive Board. Club members will receive the new calendar of events in January.
