Our last meeting was held on November 6th at the firehouse. President Randy Roash opened with the flag salute and then asked the Treasurer to give the financial report.
Treasurer’s Report – was given by Ernie Phillips, who stated that the finances are in good shape, and attributed it to the sale of Club shirts, Nightmare Shirts, and shirts from years ago which have become a vintage line that were sold at the Kids’ Tournament and Nightmare night. Randy gave credit for the sales to the Dimarcantonios, the Hollingers and the Henrys.
President’s Report – Randy reported that the club had had a good year, and the events have been successful. He mentioned the leaving of Bob Adam, club trustee, who will be moving to South Carolina and that Ed Dimarcantonio will be taking over the running of the Kids’ Tournament. Bob & Kathy Adam have done an incredible job with this event and we are going to miss them. We wish them the very best of luck in their new home.
Herb Hollinger Sr. brought to Randy’s attention that the legislation that was trying to be passed to ban lead sinkers, tackle, etc. has been defeated. We will probably be hearing more about this in the future.
Secretary’s Report – was not given due to the absence of our secretary Rosemarie Whelan.
Vice-President’s Report – Bud Lyon announced the date of the Next Meeting/Xmas Party/Club Elections will take place on December 4th at 4pm at the firehouse. Ed Andress will be unable to do the cooking that day, because he has to work, so Bud will be doing the cooking and hopes that you will let him know if you are going to attend, so he can get some idea of how many people to cook for. You can e-mail him at budkat@frontiernet.net
Bud also discussed the fall fishing situation and says that the stripers are on the move and should be in the area in the next two weeks. Good fishing reports have been coming out of LBI.
Randy asked Bud to tell us who were the slate of officers for 2011 so far. Bud failed the pop quiz, so that announcement will take place before the election. There is still time for nominations, so if you are interested please contact Dick Omrod. You can e-mail him at omrod105@comcast.net
Environmental Report – Carol Ferguson reported that the committee would be planting Beach Plums, but would need to wait for two consecutive frosts, which causes the plants to go dormant before planting.
Randy mentioned that snow fence has been installed by the Dept. of Corrections recently in the Whale Beach area and said they would be planting dune grass in the coming weeks.
Activities Officer – Debbe Starr announced that the date for the Winter Social will be February 26th at the Deauville Inn. Please mark that date on your calendar. There will be more details about the Social in the January newsletter and you will also be receiving the Club Calendar of Events in January.
Quartermaster Rob Coffey discussed the up-coming 5th Annual Last Cast Tournament and a couple of changes that had been made this year which included an all Species, not limited to just Stripers, and the new start time, daybreak on the first day.
COTR FOOD DONATIONS – Linda Phillips will be heading up the club food donations event again this year. She reminded all of us of the poor economy and the incredible need that a lot of families are facing in Cape May County this year so please be generous and bring some non perishable food items such as canned goods, cereal or pasta with you to the meeting on Dec. 4th. Linda and Ernie will deliver them to the Food Pantry at the Church of Resurrection in Marmora. Other items that are also needed are cleaning products such as Windex, dish liquid, laundry detergent, paper towels, or it can be personal hygiene products like soap, deodorant, shampoo, and toilet paper. Baby diapers are needed as well. Grocery Gift cards are another great way to give. If you can’t get to the store then cash or checks are welcome. The people at the Food Pantry use this money to buy the perishable food items that are needed when the deliveries are made to the families during this holiday season. Make checks payable to COTR. Thank you for your generous support.
CLUB DUES – Your annual club dues of $25 is due on January 1, 2011. The same as last year, if your dues is not paid by April 1, 2011 there will be a ten dollar late fee tacked on, so you will be paying $35. After June 1, 2011 you will be removed from the membership rolls and it will cost you $50 to rejoin. So let’s do the smart thing and pay our dues on time. Mail to- SFEC, PO BOX 77, Strathmere, New Jersey 08248.
Sick & Welfare – Get well wishes go out to Ollie Twist who was in the hospital recently suffering from a bout with pneumonia, but is now home and doing much better, and to George Turner who also was in the hospital, but is home now recuperating from surgery. All of you are in our thoughts and prayers.
The meeting was adjourned and we would like to thank Bud, Debbe & Kurt for the munchies and beverages and Bob & Kathy Adam for the dessert. Great job guys!
SFEC wishes the entire membership a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy New Year!
