A recap of August: Probably the busiest and most productive month in SFEC history. August 17 was the final day for the 2013 Tuna Classic. First place went to Mucho Clams for a 207.5 pound tuna caught by Jason Hearon. Other winners and great photos are available on the web-site. The following week, Saturday the 24, we had our annual boat parade and house decorating contests, better known as Nightmare in Strathmere. The web-site has great photos and a list of winners. The month was capped off with the 2013 Tenth Annual Kid’s Surf Tournament. One hundred ninety four youngsters entered the contest; first place was five year old Olivia Nickel with a 13.5 inch bluefish. A great showing and a super job by Ed DiMarcantonio, Mike Olley and their committee.
The September 7 SFEC Meeting: This is our first meeting since June and there is a lot to cover. Try to make it; for sure we will have some giggles, not to mention some adult refreshments. Starts at five.
The September 21 SFEC Reef Cup Tournament: Gary & Brian Riordan have put together an early fall tournament directed at the offshore reefs and the surrounding area. Nice prizes for the winner at the BBQ, 6:00 PM at the Firehouse. See here for all the info and entry forms.
October 12 is the Saturday of Columbus weekend and for the past few years the date we devote to beach planting. This year we plan to plant Beach Plums and other native species at sites selected by the Environmental Committee. The meeting later that day will feature a guest speaker. We also ask all the local residents to join in the planting and the meeting.
The Striper Board: Is up at Whale Creek, same rules as last year. List the length of your catch, the date and where you caught it. Awards at the Winter Social in February
The website: Just a reminder, all this info (and more) is available at strathmerefishing.org
Always remember you’re unique. Just like everyone else.
