On July 18, 2013, the SFEC teamed with the Schiavo Library
to co-sponsor a program called “Traveling Turtles”.

The program was presented by the Wetlands Institute, and was held on a hot evening
in the library parking lot. There were over 100 children and adults in attendance.

The program began with a discussion of diamondback terrapins and the proper way to hold them.
.
Then the kids got a chance to handle the turtles.
Tubs of terrapins, ready to go!
With the aid of the Strathmere Volunteer Fire Company, the group then headed to the boat ramp…
where children released 20 turtles into the bay.

The last turtle (terrapin) goes into the marsh….
