On July 12, 2009, members of SFEC placed an osprey platform just off Flat Creek.
The platform was planned and constructed by Dick Omrod and Dick Shetler. It was then transported to
the old Corson’s Marina by boat trailer.
The platform was tranferred to Herb’s boat…
and then scouting began for a suitable location.
A great location was found along Flat Creek.
Luckily, the lack of rain made transport fairly easy…
and the “planting” could begin.
The lack of rain also made the surface pretty hard…
Just needs a strong back!
There we go!
Meanwhile a “roost” must be placed for the Daddy Osprey….
Time for the raising…
This thing is pretty heavy!
Down into the four-foot hole.
Refill the hole…
Meanwhile a management team audits and times progress…
Braces are set and attached.
All four braces are bolted tight…
Tighten those bolts!
Next the braces are staked and screwed tight…
And finally sheet metal is attached to prevent predators from going after eggs and fledglings…
And the project is finished!
Here’s how it looks from Flat Creek. Hopefully it will look inviting to newlywed ospreys!
