Surf Tournament Wrap Up:
The tournament had a great turnout, there were 35 fishermen and 6 children who participated. Unfortunately, the fish were not cooperative and no awards were awarded. The awards will likely be used for an October surf fishing invitational in the fall of 2014. There will be no charge for those who fished in the spring 2014 tournament. This tournament raised money for the Polar Bear for Autism Organization, with help from the members of the community we were able to raise $1400 for a great cause. The SFEC also donated the proceeds of the tournament plus an additional $250. The SFEC would like to thank our partners: Mikes Seafood, The Diamond family, La Costa, Boulevard Bait & Tackle, Two Chums, & Whale Creek Marina for their support. The SFEC would also like to thank the many members of the community that attended the dinner & made generous donations!!
Flounder Tournament Wrap Up:
We had a great turnout for the Herb Hollinger Sr. Opening day Flounder Tournament. The fish were more cooperative for this tournament, although the bite did die down during the early afternoon. Following the tournament many members of the SFEC & their families attended the awards ceremony, enjoyed a meal, and learned a brief history behind the start of the Herb Hollinger Sr. Opening Day Tournament!
The winners of this tournament included:
Ladies Division:
1st place – Jan Hollinger 4 lb 5 oz
2nd place – Alaine Krajicek 3 lb 8 oz
3rd place – Nancy Cunningham 2 lb 12 oz
Men’s Division:
Overall Winner – Matt Schad 5 lb 9 oz
1st place – Rich Schad 5 lb 9 oz
2nd Place – Jim Mumman 5 lb 4 oz
3rd Place – Eric Hitchner 5 lb
Although a few children did fish, there were no awards given out for the junior division.
The SFEC & Hollinger family would like to give thanks to Whale Creek Marina for their help with weighing in the flounder, John Latwinas for cooking the hotdogs, and the members of the SFEC community for coming out & fishing! Herb Sr. was able to fish & was glad to see everyone out there!
The SFEC would like to recognize Dick Omrod for catching the first keeper bass of the 2014 season. He was awarded the $100 bounty for bringing in a 30” Bass. Congrats Dick!!
